CIWL, the "Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits", is the oldest company operating sleeping cars and restaurants, as well as luxury trains.
In the 1960s, CIWL decided to gradually replace its existing fleet of Pullman wagons, now technically obsolete, with more in line with the times.
In 1971 the carriages normally used for international traffic were leased or sold to many of the European railway companies, including the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
